How does the grace period work?

This feature is being gradually rolled out. Please contact technical support if you do not see an option for 'Grace Period' on the challenge setup wizard or challenge dates setting page in your admin website.

Challenges start and end based on the challenge (organiser) timezone. For more information please see How do challenge timezones work?

The grace period feature enables participants to add in any missing activities for a short period after the challenge ends. While we always recommend reminding your participants to add their final activities just before the challenge ends, our experience tells us that some participants will ask to add in missed activities in the 24/48 hours after the challenge ends, regardless of how well you communicate the end date to them.

The challenge grace period feature keeps the challenge open for 24/48/72 hours after it ends and allows participants to add in missing activities and sync their final steps. It does not allow them to add in activity for days after the challenge ends.

This is an optional feature. The default for new challenges is that the grace period is enabled and set to 24 hours, but you can control this via the admin settings (see below).

Please note that the challenge leaderboards will continue to update throughout the grace period, so we recommend only exporting these or announcing winners after the grace period has ended.

What do participants see?

Once the challenge has ended, it will enter the grace period. Participants will be able to add in any missing activity via normal methods.

The website/app will tell them to check back once the grace period is over to see the final results.

The Leaderboards page also has a message indicating that results may change over the next few hours.

What do challenge organisers see?

When creating a challenge, the setup wizard will ask you if you'd like to enable a grace period. The options are No grace period, 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours. If you change your mind later, please contact the support team to change this setting.

Once the challenge is published, you can view the current grace period setting in your admin area. Just go to the Settings tab for the challenge, then to Dates in the list of settings. You'll see the current grace period settings. Please contact the support team if you wish to change the settings.

When a challenge has ended and the grace period has been enabled, you will see a banner indicating this in the challenge's Overview tab. You can choose to end the grace period at any time by clicking on the "End Now" button. Please note this immediately ends the grace period (no more activity can be added) and is irreversible.
