This article contains some more information on the platform update rolled out from 6 December 2023.

A fresh new design.

For the last few months we've been designing and building a whole new Big Team Challenge and we're excited to launch our re-designed web and mobile apps for all challenges.

We know redesigns can be a little surprising, but we've focused on improving our familiar layout and screens rather than re-imagining our entire app. All of the features you are used to can still be found easily - Dashboard, Team, Map, Leaderboards and Settings. There are also some new features in our makeover and we're paving the way for lots of improvements in the works for the next few months!

Why have you changed things?

It's been several years since we first launched Big Team Challenge and while we have added new features and screens, we haven't made any significant changes to the overall layout and appearance in that time.

We are committed to making the best user experience on our apps for both challenge organisers and participants. Web and mobile best practices and technologies are constantly evolving and we also have a growing list of features that our team are working on incorporating into our platform. We hope that the evolution of our familiar interface will help us improve the user experience and provide a solid foundation for future features and updates.

What else has changed?

All of our other core features stay the same but our new web and mobile apps have given us the opportunity to release some new features and updates, including:

  1. Improved Fitbit, Garmin, iPhone and Android syncing - using a single daily total for each connection.

  2. The user's chosen display unit (steps, kilometres or miles) now affects how distances display throughout the web and mobile apps.

  3. A new 'Setup Wizard' on the challenge dashboard - allowing new and returning participants to setup their profile, sync their devices and create or join a team on a single page.

We have removed the GPS tracker feature from our mobile apps to focus on manual entry, tracker syncing and future activity conversion updates on all platforms.

We have migrated from Google Fit to Health Connect on our new Android app. If you are a Google Fit user you can still sync your steps from Google Fit via Health Connect with a few simple steps.

What do I need to do?

Our platform updates are scheduled to go live starting at 8am GMT/UTC on 6 December 2023. Web users will see the new interface as soon as our update rolls out whereas users of our iPhone and Android apps should look for an update in the App Store / Play Store in the days following the rollout. Our existing iPhone and Android apps will continue to work for the foreseeable future.

We hope these changes make Big Team Challenge easier to use. Our friendly support team is available if you run into any issues or have any questions or feedback.

FAQs

If I've already published a challenge which is underway, will the updates happen automatically?

Yes, the updates will automatically roll out to your challenge and be available first on the challenge website for all users and then on the mobile apps once users update via the App Store / Play store.

Can I opt-out of the design update?

It is not possible to opt-out of this update. Since our platform is a software-as-a-service app that hosts all challenges using the same software, the changes will apply to all of our clients and challenges equally. If you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to our support team.
