Fixing Google Health sync issues

Written by David

The Fitbit app is transitioning to the Google Health app in May 2026. For more information please refer to our help article

Common issues

The most common issues affecting Google Health syncing are:

  1. The Google Health mobile app has not synced your Fitbit / Pixel Watch steps and therefore we have not received any steps to log.

  2. Your missing steps are for a date before you connected to Google Health - we only accept steps from the point you connect onwards (including if you disconnect and reconnect).

  3. You have disconnected from within the Google Health app or not given permission to access your activity data.

  4. You have connected to Google Health but accidentally logged into the wrong Google account during the connection process.

The first thing to check is that you are connected to Google Health on Big Team Challenge.

  • On the Big Team Challenge mobile app:

    • Open the sidebar and click Sync Devices

  • On the challenge website:

    • Click My Account then Sync Devices in the navigation

Ensure that the 'Active Device' says Fitbit.

Note: We will be introducing a Google Health option soon, including the requirement to migrate your current Fitbit connection to your Google Health account. You will see a prompt when this option is available.

Check access and account

The next thing to check is that you are connected to the right account and have given permission to access your steps:

  • On the Google Health mobile app:

    • Click on your profile icon (top right)

    • Click on "Apps and services"

    • Ensure Big Team Challenge is shown on the Connections > Apps and services screen

    • Click on the Big Team Challenge on that screen, then tap the โ–ผ icon to ensure it says we can read "Activity and exercise".

If Big Team Challenge is not shown on Google Health connections but you are connected on Big Team Challenge, you may be connected to the wrong account. To resolve this:

  1. Open up the Google Health app and click on your profile icon (top right). Take note of the email address shown (i.e. your Google Account)

  2. Open up the Big Team Challenge mobile app or challenge website and click Sync Devices (app: Main Menu > Sync Devices, website: My Account > Sync Devices)

  3. Press Disconnect beside Fitbit

  4. When redirected back, Press Connect beside Fitbit and ensure you login to the correct Google account account.

Triggering a sync

Once you have connected Google Health and checked the permissions, we should get a ping with your steps each time you sync your Fitbit / Pixel Watch with the Google Health app. This happens in the background and is processed automatically, although there may be a delay of around 10 minutes before the daily total is updated on your Big Team Challenge account.

Getting in touch for help
